Due to the current situation brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Education is formally postponing the opening of classes from 24 August 2020 to 5 October 2020. This is due to the instructions from the National Government and clamor of various stakeholders in the education sector.

It is important to note that this order is effective for all public schools nationwide regardless of the modality being implemented. Private schools, on the other hand, may start their classes ahead of the 5 October 2020 opening date as long as there are no face-to-face sessions.

With the department adjusting the school opening, it reiterated that schools should use the time available to prepare for the "new normal" brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
